After a whirlwind premiere season at Fremantle's Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Tales From Outer Suburbia will be heading to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre for an encore season in November (see earlier post for more about this stage production). i watched some pictures on the net,it seems a real accurate work that respect and catch the spirit of your works.. unfortunately its's too far from Italy.. EW

DeleteHello Shaun. Is this production to travel to New South Wales? I can but dream... I am truly awestruck - in the correct sense of the word 'awe' - whenever I look at your work. Part of me thinks there's no point in carrying on with my own work because it doesn't get any better than what you do! I do carry on, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so delighted that you put the giant red rabbit picture in a book. It's been one of many favourites since The Bird King was released. I'm interested to know what you think regarding the review from yesterday's Spectrum, that the rabbit is 'demonic'-looking. I interpreted it as the wonder of the unknown, it's hue being the representation of its own extraordinary life. The spooked children trouble me but I hope it's only the spooky unknown and their wonder will be rewarded.
Thanks for the comments. The rabbit is basically a mystery to me as much as anyone, but I have to say I kind of side with the demonic impression :) However, that's just the boys' feeling too. Were the image to be extended into a longer story, I have a feeling the rabbit would turn out to be quite misunderstood. Incidentally, the earlier versions of the rabbit pic (dating back to 2008) were always intended for Rules of Summer, it's been a long-standing project, and nice to finally have it finished.
ReplyDeleteAs for theatre shows traveling interstate, it's really up to festivals or venues, so it may or may not happen. It's very much outside of my control, and I often find out only when a show is about to open. Good luck with your own work - stay calm and carry on! The only real measure of your own art is your own art, and it's very hard to anticipate where it goes, or even where it's heading, in advance.

Yes, that's very much in my style and looks oddly familiar - the only thing I'd do differently is have a cloud of steam instead of a tuft. Thanks for sharing.
