RULES OF SUMMER release date set

'Never eat the last olive at a party' (a cautionary detail from Rules of Summer)

The release date for my latest title has been set for October 8 this year (in Australia, UK, and some other territories, with a US edition planned for the following year). It's a large-format 48 page picture book which is more or less about two boys involved in several dramatic situations, based in part on my own memory of childhood which, like any good private universe, defies easy explanation. I'll post more info about this book both here and on my website as the release date approaches.

    1. Hello Armando - yes, I do live in Australia, though have had the good fortune to visit Mexico twice, and the experience has influenced my artwork quite a bit. The best way for people to send things to me is through my publisher, either Allen & Unwin in Melbourne or Hachette in Sydney, you can find info on my website, just go to the picture books page. They will forward things on to me. Apologies in advance if I don't reply, especially not immediately, I'm a very slow correspondent as you can tell!

  7. Hi Shaun, Really enjoy reading your books and sharing them with my class. I had the pleasure of listening to you talk at the Reading conference held at the Fremantle Literacy Centre last year.

I know this is not the right place but would love to ask you a question about your book - tales from outer suburbia. We have been studying it in class and even used it for our item at assembly last week. Why no capital letters? Our class blog has a few photos and we would love to hear from you.

    1. Hi Gary, sorry for taking so long to reply, but I was delighted to see the images created by your class on your blog, it looks like you had a lot of fun! To answer your question, I often drop capitals because it feels more like a 'whisper' than and announcement, and a lot of my stories are about very small or unassuming things. I often use handwriting for the same reason, that it looks less important. Big hello to your class and thanks for reading.

  8. UK release seems a little delayed - Amazon says 7 Nov - looking forward to it!
By the way Shaun - have you seen this amazing book?
